Get Your Words Out - December!

December did not go as planned. I failed to reach my unofficial goal of 200K words in 2020, but I did manage to write 191,796 words. Which is more words than I have ever written in a year, so I'm still calling it a win! I clocked in at 5,085 words in December rather than the 13,500 I had hoped for at the start of the month.

Writing 191,796 words in a year means I wrote 15,983 on average each month. Obviously I didn't keep up that pace, but since I wrote between 15,000 and 22,000 in the first four months of 2020, combined with more than 48,000 words in August, and the average goes way up.

That said, I wrote between 1,139 words a month and 48,542 words, which is a HUGE gap. Granted, the latter number is from August so it's bound to be much higher than normal, but still. The difference shouldn't be that high. I need to find an average and stick to that so I don't burn myself out.

I've posted nine stories in 2020, six for the August Fic-A-Day, and three that were unrelated. All of them are crossovers, which is a little ironic since most of my unpublished stories are not. Given the amount of words I've written, there should've been more complete stories. Instead, I'm left with unfinished stuff that isn't going anywhere and stories I've known all along won't even be considered to be uploaded anywhere. *sigh*

I'm not giving up though. GYWO has given me the drive to push myself to write, all I have to do is make sure I write something usable, and not crap to get my word count up. It's hard, but I can do it. I just need to focus better, make plans, even if they are vague, and then try my best to stick to that.

I signed up for Get Your Words Out 2021, specifically I signed up for the Modest (150K) Word Count option.
In 2018, I signed up for 75K.
In 2019, I signed up for 150K.
In 2020, I signed up for 75K but changed it mid-year to 150K.

Here's to a lot of creative writing in 2021, hopefully posting new chapters to at least one of those poor, neglected WiP's, and everything working out for the best!

Happy New Year!

2020 was not the great year we had all hoped for, quite the contrary in fact. But we are still here and we will hopefully still be here when 2022 rolls around. Celebrate all the good things that happened and remember that we will get through this.

With any luck, 2021 will be a great year and we'll beat the pandemic so our lives can go back to something resembling normal.

Get tested if you suspect you might have gotten the virus. Make sure to inform anyone you've been in contact with if your test is positive so they can get tested as well. Don't go to parties with more than the recommended number of people, same with crowded places. If you accidentally get into that situation then leave, for your own sake but also for the sake of your family and loved ones.

If you get Covid-19, please isolate yourself at home or somewhere safe, and don't go out. Keep in contact by phone, messages, and the Internet. It isn't the same as seeing someone in person, but limited contact is better than none at all.

I wish you all a Happy New Year, and I hope for the best for you and yours.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - November!

November 2020 is officially my worst month as far as writing goes. I wrote a sum total of 1,139 words. Yikes. It brings my total up to 186,711 words so far this year. That means if I'm going to reach my unofficial goal I need to write 13,289 words in December.

It is doable, if my lethargy and writer's block doesn't get in my way. October and November has also been busy with a lot of work, but it looks like that will calm down now, so maybe.

If I up my estimate to 13,500 and then divide it into four weeks, then I need to write 3,375 words per week this month. My average for the first 11 months is almost 17,000 words, so I can do this. I can. I will.

December means that we will also be able to sign up for GYWO 2021 in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm 99% certain I will sign up for 150K again. I originally signed up for 75K this year, but because they allowed everyone to change their pledge half-way through I changed it to 150K. It looks like I'm comfortable with that number, so yeah.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - October!

October was slightly worse than September as far as writing goes. I only managed to write 6,266 words. Which, yeah. I really need to step up my game if I'm going to reach my unofficial goal of 200,000 words this year. As of November 1st, my word count is 185,572. That means I should write at least 7,214 words in both November and December. It's only about a 1000 words more than I wrote in the last couple of months, so it should be doable. Hopefully.

There's been no progress on any of my WIP's in the last couple of months, so I'm hoping to get inspiration for one of them. It's been so long since I've posted a new chapter to any of them.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - September!

I really need to stop putting off writing this post each month. *sigh*

September had a low word count, just as I had expected. The August Fic-A-Day takes a lot out of me, and it results in little writing in the following months. I had hoped I would be able to write at least 10K, but alas, I clocked in at 6,332.

As of October 1st my year to date was 179,306 words.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - August!

I ended up writing quite a lot in August; 48,542 words to be exact! Making my total as of September first 172,794. I reached my goal of 150K with chapter six of my Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Criminal Minds/Stargate SG-1 crossover fic, Dandelion, on August 18th. If I had followed the recommended schedule then I should've written 100K, which means I'm 72,794 words ahead. :)

That said, 40,615 of those words were written for the 2020 August Fic-A-Day, and the remaining 7,927 were attempts at other unrelated fics. This also included a femslash short fic from 2014 which I cleaned up and posted while looking for inspiration for the ficathon.

I wrote six stories for the AFaD, here. The following fandoms were crossed with BtVS; Charmed (TV 1998), Criminal Minds (US TV), NCIS: Los Angeles, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (TV), Stargate SG-1, and The Walking Dead (TV).

Anything I write for the rest of the year will be a bonus. :)
