Get Your Words Out 2020 - August!

I ended up writing quite a lot in August; 48,542 words to be exact! Making my total as of September first 172,794. I reached my goal of 150K with chapter six of my Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Criminal Minds/Stargate SG-1 crossover fic, Dandelion, on August 18th. If I had followed the recommended schedule then I should've written 100K, which means I'm 72,794 words ahead. :)

That said, 40,615 of those words were written for the 2020 August Fic-A-Day, and the remaining 7,927 were attempts at other unrelated fics. This also included a femslash short fic from 2014 which I cleaned up and posted while looking for inspiration for the ficathon.

I wrote six stories for the AFaD, here. The following fandoms were crossed with BtVS; Charmed (TV 1998), Criminal Minds (US TV), NCIS: Los Angeles, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (TV), Stargate SG-1, and The Walking Dead (TV).

Anything I write for the rest of the year will be a bonus. :)

Get Your Words Out 2020 - July!

Apparently I was so focused on the AFaD that I completely forgot about my monthly post. So for the sake of consistency, here's the short and sweet of July. I wrote 16,656 words in July, putting my YtD word count at 124,359 words! According to my schedule I should've written 87,500 words by August, making me 36,859 words ahead!

2020 August Fic-A-Day Challenge!

The 2020 August Fic-A-Day Challenge start tomorrow! Given the pandemic going on, there was a chance it wouldn't run this year, but thankfully they chose to run it this year as well.

A notable change is that this year we can post out entries to either LJ, a special challenge entry on TtH, or both. This means all the people who have left LJ over the years can post if they have an account on TtH or sign up for one. :) Hopefully, this means more people will participate this year as interest have been waning, particularly with all the BS LJ has done over the years to make people leave the platform. It doesn't help that Buffy has been off the air for nearly two decades, but it's a cult classic for a reason.

I've been looking forward to this for months, but I've barely begun preparations so I'll have to mostly wing it again. But, oh well. It'll be fun!

Get Your Words Out 2020 - June!

June was just as busy at work as May was, but I managed to write 12,154 words. That put my YtD word count at 107,687 words!

I changed my Pledge from 75K to 150K. According to my new Pledge, I should've written 75K as of yesterday, which means I'm 32,687 words ahead. In other words, I only have to write another 42,313 words to reach my new goal. That's about 7,053 words a month for the next six months. Or the approximate number of words I intend to write in August...

Also, I started AND finished a thing in June! Rare Book Collectors was written for the Spring Into a Bar 2020 Fic-a-thon. It's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover with a Norwegian book series called Rimfrost. You may read it on AO3 | FF.net | TtH.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - May!

May was busy with a lot of work, which means that writing took a backseat. I managed to write 11,059 words, including a few thousand words on the 31st to up my count. My YTD word count is now 95,533, making me 20,533 words ahead of my current Pledge. I failed to reach 100K as I had planned, but, oh well. I'm good regardless.

If I had selected the 150K Pledge then my word count as of May should've been 62,500, averaging 12,500 words a month. If I had chosen 200K it should've been about 83,335, and averaging about 16,667 words a month. Either way, I would still have been ahead, especially since my average word count for the first five months have been over 19K. That said, I'm going to up my word count to 150K when they allow us to do so, going higher than that will probably just stress me out. I'm also not likely to keep writing that much every month, August excluded.

Should I choose 150K, then I have to write another 54,467 words. If I choose 200K, then it's 104,467. So either 7,786 words a month or 14,929 words a month. Both of them are doable if I look at my stats, particularly if I consider that I'm likely to write about 40K in August. But... I'm also likely to be frazzled after that month which will make me write much less. So, yeah.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - April!

April was a good month, not as good as March, but I'm not complaining. I clocked in at 22,244 words, putting my YTD word count at 84,474. 75K was reached on April 13th. Which means I'm 9,474 words ahead of my Pledge! GYWO has decided to allow people to change their Pledge for a few weeks in June if we're either falling behind or are getting ahead. I'm about 15K away from 100K and will in all likelihood pass it during May, so I will up my Pledge to either 150K or 200K depending on how May goes and how confident I feel.

I participated in GYWO's 7 Days, 7 Stories, and completed rough outlines for seven stories/scenes. Not really satisfied with most of them, but a couple has potential. We'll see if my flighty muse is cooperative or not.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - March!

If I'd known I would be this productive in 2020 I would've just signed up for 150K again instead of 75K, because, honestly? I'm less than 13,000 words away from completing my Pledge. Barring me or a close family member getting the Coronavirus and I'm going to achieve my writing goal in April. *knocks on wood* As a result, I'm going to up my unofficial goal from 100K to 150K.

That said, I wrote 24,848 words in March, for a total of 62,230 words so far in 2020. Another 270 words and I would've completed my word count for October. So that's good.

On the downside, I didn't make any progress on any of my (posted) WiP's, so that's not good. I suffer from the Shiny, New Idea Disease, and apparently it has no intention of going away or at least staying long enough for me to complete any of those ideas. *sigh* Oh well, at least I'm writing.

Get Your Words Out 2020 - February!

February and it's Leap Day has come and gone, giving everyone an extra day for whatever they might need it for. I used it to write over 1,500 words, which I'm very happy with. I wrote 15,295 words in February, more than twice the expected amount, so I'm feeling great. Another 118 words and I would've caught up with my word count for June as well.

I made some more progress on 'Another Day In Paradise' and 'Change of Plans'. Not much, mind you, but progress none-the-less. I love both of those fics and I really want to post something new, but writer's block is not helping. Neither do new, shiny ideas that won't leave me alone and then abandon me just as quickly.

On the bright side, I finally managed to finish a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Harry Potter/The Walking Dead crossover. I started this one in November last year, but finished it this month and posted it. It's a oneshot called 'Decay on the Move'. It's a Buffy/Harry story where they meet up with Rick and the original group in Atlanta. The horse even lives!

Get Your Words Out 2020 - January!

In 2018 I made the insane and very spur of the moment decision to join the year-long Get Your Words Out challenge. As I've never really written much I signed up for the lowest option, 75K, and hoped for the best. I came in at 101,590 words, and in the euphoria over my success I signed up for 150K in 2019. Most of the year was spent behind where I should be, but I finished at an impressive 159,598 words.

That said, most of those words were stories I started and abandoned because I either ran out of ideas, wrote myself into a corner, or simply wrote to try and catch up to where I was supposed to be at that particular time while knowing it was terrible. It became a bad habit I hope to break this year. Which is why I signed up for 75K in 2020. I know I can do that.

Which brings me to the progress for January 2020: I clocked in at 22,087 words. My monthly goal is to write at least 6,250 words, so that means I've written literally three and half times what I should've. Or in other words, I could write nothing in February and March, then write about 3,000 words in April and still be good. I won't do that, of course, but I can relax more knowing I'm ahead.

Further on the bright side, I have made progress on 'Another Day in Paradise' and 'Rewind For Victory'. I even did some spelling and grammar corrections to my old fic 'Change of Plans', along with some new words. With any luck I'll be able to post a new chapter to at least one of those sometime soon.
